1st March 2012:
The Perfumed Garden Display Garden and Nursery at the Briars in Mt Martha, is now closed.
Sophie Adamson, proprietor of The Perfumed Garden Display Garden and Nursery in Mt Martha, has sold the business.
The Perfumed Garden was well known throughout Australia for the introduction of David Austin Roses. This style of rose, which combines the form, fragrance and hardiness of old world roses with the recurrence of the modern hybrid teas, is most appealing, shown by its enormous popularity in recent years. Many gardeners may remember Sophie Adamson's business at Moorooduc before it relocated in 2000 to The Briars, a prominent historic park and tourist attraction in Mt Martha on the Mornington Peninsula.
While she took the David Austin collection with her, the new site allowed Sophie to extend the gardens to display a variety of heritage roses, other members of Rosaceae family and companion plantings, and demonstrate a broad range of planting styles, structures, and combinations. The Perfumed Garden was the registered collection of David Austin roses for the Garden Plant Conservation (GPCAA) for many years.
The garden featured in several popular garden magazines and in newspapers. A long time member of the Hertiage Roses Association, Sophie is well regarded as an expert on roses and rose gardens. When she is not busy pruning, weeding and advising customers, Sophie can frequently be heard on radio gardening programmes, and she is much sought after as a guest speaker. Recent speaking engagements include Ulladulla Garden Festival in 2010, Moree Garden Club 2012.
Sophie's love of roses remains and grows, and she is looking forward to devoting more time to sharing her passion and expertise through private rose consulting, radio appearances, and through speaking engagements at garden shows, clubs, and festivals.
